Second Annual LATINXT Festival, June 14 & 15 at Chicago's Navy Pier

05-21-2019 | Music Events

Chicago, IL, May 21, 2019. After the successful launch of the first annual LatiNxt Festival, Navy Pier is pleased to announce that the second annual music and arts festival will take place Friday, June 14 (5:30pm to 11:30pm) and Saturday, June 15 (2:00pm to 11:30pm). The free, family-friendly event welcomes visitors to explore new and traditional Latin sounds with music performances at Navy Pier’s Lake Stage in Polk Bros Park, Wave Wall Performance Platform, Miller Lite Beer Garden and People’s Energy Welcome Pavilion. The festival includes a vinyl record fair on Saturday in Polk Bros Park and a vibrant Latinx Artisans arts and crafts mercadillo. The 2019 LatiNxt lineup includes performances by Novalima, Balun, Alika, Niña Dioz, El Dusty and Quitapenas, to name a few.

As first and second generation Latinos form new cultural identities, their creative melting pot of ideas and innovation continues to shape the global music community, despite its development in the margins of the larger US music market. To the same extent throughout Latin America, increased access to technology has allowed for growing world-wide collaborations, as well as continual transformations in the arts. This, in turn, has created flourishing spaces that celebrate the culture of the past with the possibilities of the future. LatiNxt explores the music that emerges from these cultural dichotomies and through performance and exchange, strengthens connections, increases exposure and champions a more robust discourse between pioneering Latino artists across the Americas. The LatiNxt Festival is co-curated by Future Rootz, a collective of Latinx music curators, artists, taste-makers, and socio-cultural instigators.

The 2nd Annual LatiNxt Festival features Novalima, Balun, Alika, Niña Dioz, El Dusty, Quitapenas, Chocolate Remix, Yanga, Bianca Oblivion, Dos Santos, Braided Janes, Mán Cub, Pachanga DJs, Cqqchifruit, Fanita Banana, Soulphonetics, Love Bug, Vybez, with live PA's by Carolina Arroba and Bumbac Joe y sus Makinas. The festival will be hosted by MCs Logan Lu and Pinqy Ring.
